Remembrance Today’s feature song is Highway of Heroes by The Trews.  From 2001 until 2014, members of the Canadian Forces served in the Afghanistan War.  In total, 159 Canadian soldiers died. The bodies of the deceased soldiers were brought back to Canada by plane and then driven along a stretch of highway in Ontario, before being buried.  People began gathering at overpasses and along the sides of the highway to welcome the fallen soldiers back to Canada. The highway became known as the “highway of heroes.” We remember Canadian soldiers and civilians killed during the Afghanistan War as well as thousands of citizens of Afghanistan killed during the struggle to bring peace and safety to that country.
